The focus of both basic and application-oriented research are interdisciplinary approaches and innovative solutions to improve the housing environment and the well-being of farm animals.
Metabolic Health of Livestock Animals
The current research focuses on Immunometabolism and inflammation, Heat stress physiology, Liver physiology and oxidative stress and Milk quality and bioactive fatty acids.
Animal Nutrition
Research focuses are feed evaluation (criteria, environmental impact, resource conservation) and the feeding of ruminants, pigs and poultry and their impact on performance and health.
Animal Breeding
The research work of the department focuses on the identification of the genetic components of the characteristic variation (disease resistance, vitality, stress resistance, meat quality) in farm animals (especially pigs and cattle).
