ITW - Metabolic Health in Livestock
Chair of Metabolic Health in Livestock
We study how nutrition, environment, and physiology intersect to shape the metabolic and immune health of livestock, with a primary focus on dairy cattle, and growing work in pigs and poultry. Our aim is to understand the mechanisms that make animals vulnerable to metabolic disease, and to translate that understanding into feeding and management strategies that improve animal welfare, productivity, and product quality.
Our Approach
We combine controlled in vivo and ex vivo experimental models with molecular and biochemical tools, including targeted metabolomics and mixed-effects statistical modeling, to connect mechanism to management. Our work bridges fundamental physiology and applied animal science, and reflects an international collaborative network spanning Germany, Canada, and beyond.
